A Bible Verse About Weariness (Matthew 11:28)

A Bible verse about weariness:

(Jesus said,) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

I am tired.

No, that’s an understatement; I am exhausted. Spent. Drained. Bereft of energy.

I am perpetually tired, but the last few days have been exceptionally tiresome. My regular work schedule keeps me in a state of constant sleep deprivation, and having a young child doesn’t seem to help.

But the last few days I have spent 14 hours in the tractor trying to clear our driveway from the last snow storm.

Our little tractor is doing a wonderful job, but it is slow. I’ve been stacking the snow up and pushing the banks back as far as I can reach.

I have one more full day left and the entire driveway should finally be clear. Our driveway is almost a half a mile long, and the entirety of it will have 8’ snowbanks by the time that I’m finished.

So while I am excited about getting it done, or being close to being done, that’s also the problem.

There’s literally nowhere else to put snow. And I just saw on the forecast that we’re supposed to get another 6-10 inches this week.

I don’t know what to do about it either.

I knew that we had a lot of snow on the driveway, but I had no idea that it was this bad.

I’ve pushed the snow back as far as I can without getting the tractor stuck in the ditches. I’ve piled the banks up as high as the loader will reach.

It’s easy to see this as a defeat. In a matter of days, all of the work that I have been doing will be for naught.

At some point, it was inevitable. I mean, we’re not even halfway through winter, so I knew that we’d get more snow. But I thought maybe I’d get a week of rest before it came.

So I don’t know what to do about this snow. But I do know that me worrying about it won’t accomplish anything. I do know that I won’t magically find a solution on my own. Furthermore, I know that I can’t “figure it out.”

I also know that I can’t be naive enough to just sleep and expect Jesus to clear the driveway for me.

I believe this verse is more about coming to Jesus with my burdens; releasing me from the mental anguish. Instead of being frustrated, I have to remember that this just gives me another opportunity to play with my tractor.

Perhaps that is what it’s all about.

Finding a new perspective, or a new way of looking at things. If I can trust Jesus with my burdens, that allows me to free my mind. It gives me the opportunity to look at the bright side, because He’s taking care of the burden.

By doing so, maybe I will find some relief to my exhaustion.
