We wanted to build a desk and shelving unit. We needed a dedicated work space for office type work; mainly, for me to do my videos and blogging and for Bre to set up for her crafting, etc. When we first built our house, we needed storage right away so we built a very large cabinet. This also doubled as a divider between the kennel and the living area. And it was the perfect candidate to be replaced with a sleeker desk and shelving unit.
This was also my first real welding project. Awhile back we bought a Hobart Handler 140 MIG welder. I have done a few small things here and there, but this was my first chance to really learn and experience it all.
That said, the welds aren’t the best. I do not have a welding gas yet so we’re just using flux core welding wire. That led to some spattering, but I can’t blame it all on that. My inexperience was evident as the welds themselves just didn’t turn out very pretty. But that’s alright as I will most certainly improve.
Even though I am disappointed with how the individual welds turned out, I am very pleased with the overall results of this desk and shelving unit. I think it turned out great, and I am very excited for part 2 of this series where I’m going to build the desk portion. Stay tuned!
