It’s been quite some time since I’ve been able to share regular content.  The fact of the matter is that I’ve been super busy with two very important tasks.  First, I’ve spent the past year growing an iconic mustache, much to Bre’s dismay.  More importantly, we’ve been building our own home.  In some of the past posts I’ve discussed different aspects of the build as we were planning and getting underway, but since hammer met nail I’ve not had the time or energy to keep up with it.  However, I did record my daily progress so that I can bring more detailed information about the build as it came together.

So this post serves two functions.  I wanted to announce the beginning of a new series, aptly titled “Building Our Own Home,” in which I recap the daily progress jottings with more detailed information about issues we dealt with.  Seeing as though I am not a professional carpenter, I will be the first to tell you that things were not perfect, and we did have our share of problems.  With creative problem solving skills (i.e. brute stubbornness) we have been able to overcome most of them.  That said, our house is not perfect….but it is perfect for us.  We wouldn’t have been able to afford to build it by hiring it out, and I got the chance of a lifetime to create a structure to house my family.

Now, at the time of this writing, we’re still not done yet – but we’re getting there.  My to-do list at this point includes: whitewashing the walls, staining the loft floor, trim, making two sliding barn doors, building the stairs, installing the soffits, and building a few built-in cabinets.  In comparison the project’s start, my list has diminished significantly.  The “Building Our Own Home” series consists of (to this point) 83 days worth of work, so by the time I get caught up I’m hoping to be 100% done.

The second function of this post is to share with you something that I’ve been incredibly excited about – ever since the very first day.  One of my first goals of the build (other than having a livable, sound structure) was to capture the progress via a time-lapse video.  Due to inclement weather, I wasn’t able to shoot on 100% of the days, but we were able to capture the majority of the build.  After post-processing of the video, I was amazed to watch the whole thing come together.  If you’re interested, check out the video below and let me know what you think!
