Over the past week or so a lot of work has been done on the most important part of our build process – the foundation. Our schedule had been pushed back a few weeks because the contractor’s other projects got pushed back. That, and we’ve had a lot of rain recently which made getting any work done difficult. I was pleasantly surprised last week when the contractor called me to schedule the site prep. We met out on the land to confirm the location and he told me that he’d start digging.
I didn’t realize at the time the extent of what he meant. Not only did he dig through the sod, but he also got all the sand delivered and leveled in the same day. Bre and I stopped out at the land today and we were pleased to find that the forms have been placed and are ready for pouring!
The main slab for our cabin is a 20’x30′ monolithic slab. The pour will be a three part process. First, they’ll pour the main slab, secondly they’ll pull the sonotubes that support the porch posts. Last, they’ll pour the exterior, unheated slab.
Our plumber is scheduled to do the rough work on Tuesday. Once that’s done, the slab pour can begin. We’re still waiting on the loan to order our materials, so we can’t start the build yet. However, once the slab is done, we’ll still be done with two subcontractors, and WE’LL HAVE A SLAB. After getting the electric done, this is another pretty monumental step.
