This Scotts 46572×8 riding lawn mower repair ended up taking me three separate videos to finish, but finish it we did.
Most of the time was spent waiting for parts to come in. While I was waiting, I could do a little bit of work and repair things as they came in.
Repairs done previously
Make sure to check out parts one and two to get caught up on the history of this machine and the repairs that we’ve done to date.
Scotts 46572×8 repairs done in this video
The focus of this video was to assess and reassemble the mowing deck, routine servicing, and detailing of the machine.
To that end, we had to clean up a few of the spindle bearings so they would spin freely, but thankfully no bearings needed to be replaced.
With the deck reassembled it could go back on, and even though that was a bit challenging, it went back on.
From there, a final oil change and filter replacement completed the mechanical repairs on this machine. If I didn’t mention it in part two, we also went and did a fuel filter replacement.
Detailing the Scotts 46572×8
Lately, I have been focusing on doing a final detail on any machine that I work on.
It doesn’t take too much more time, but the results are well worth the effort. Not only does it look better, but it increases the resale value as well.
To detail this machine, like all of the other ones, I follow a simple process:
- pressure wash the entire machine, including the engine
- let it try completely
- wax and buff (I use some 20 year old Turtle Wax that I had on the shelf with my Milwaukee M12 buffer/polisher – this thing does a fantastic job since it’s small enough to fit in the various nooks and crannies)
- wipe off the wax before it dries
- Use some Meguiar’s black restorer to moisturize and restore all of the black plastic
- take some snappy photos and list it
Recap
Overall, this machine was a good project. We had some mechanical failures, a bit of routine maintenance, and a lot of tubes to install.
