How to Build a Sewing Machine Cabinet: Part 1

Bre has been asking me to build a sewing machine cabinet for the past few years. She has acquired a good amount of sewing and knitting materials, and she needed a more efficient storage solution. Let’s get to work.

The plan is to build what looks to be a built in cabinet. This will match our built in bookcase on the other side of the room. However, the bottom half will be on wheels and will separate from underneath the top half. The top half will be secured to the wall.

The top half will have doors and shelves. This will be the bulk of the storage for her materials.

The bottom half will roll out and become her work surface. The idea so far is to build it so that the sewing machine has a lift mechanism. This will allow her to lift the machine instead of having to pick it up.

Also, the bottom half will have a work surface that should line up with our dining room table. That way, if she needs extra space she’ll be able to utilize the table as well.

This is part one of our series on how to build a sewing machine cabinet. Part one covers the upper cabinet. Stay tuned for the rest.
